Music, Music, Music

It's only been a few days and I'm already bored of revision and quickly running out of viable distractions. To keep me occupied for a bit, I thought I would share with you all some of my favourite musical highlights from the past few months. I've not been updating this log as often as I'd have liked to and one of my favourite things was the single of the week - even if it was very difficult at times.

Starting with the most recent, I only discovered this song on Monday when #5 in the BBC's Sound of 2011 list was announced. Clare Maguire has a huge voice and will undoubtedly see great success in 2011. Her first single Ain't Nobody is available to download now and the Breakage remix that has featured so often this week on Radio 1 has been stuck firmly in my head. You can also get a free download of Strangest Thing if you 'like' her on facebook - unlike similar promotions, this one worked straight away!

The next track is from up and coming Drum 'n' bass duo Nero - also featured on the Sound of 2011 long list (and hopefully short list). Their single Me and You is very addictive and almost impossible not to like. It has been featured everywhere recently and if you like bands such as Pendulum then check this out.

With this next artist we move into the realms of house music - something that doesn't happen all that often with my music tastes but again, this song has been everywhere and is also really really catchy. Avicii (Tim Berg) & Sebastien Drums and their single My Feelings For You - turn the volume up and get your groove on.

Next up is a return to the realms of pop with another smash hit from The Hoosiers and on hearing this track, I immediately went out and bought the album. I have already had their single Choices as one of my last records of the week and Bumpy Ride is another belter. A really upbeat and energetic song, it hasn't been released as a single yet so no official video yet but you can catch most of the song on the tail end of their X-Factor spoof.

This next song is a bit more sombre and slow but deservedly won the best live lounge of 2010. Robyn's stripped back, acoustic version of Dancing On My Own is so different to the original, it is almost an entirely different song. Her ability to jazz up amazing lyrics with a dancey backing is incredible and as with Every Heartbeat, this is so beautiful.

Finally, and a little bit delayed but worth it nonetheless, a track from the Sunshine Underground. I was the lighting engineer when they played at live wire during Freshers Week and I actually rather liked their music. So much so in fact, that I bought their two albums over Christmas and they are going down very well indeed. My favourite track from them is this one, so here's something a bit new for you to try - Spell It Out from their latest album Nobody's Coming to Save You
