Better Luck Next Time

I had thought that today had gone reasonably well. Time seemed to go very quickly during the time I spent at IBM and after a brief introductory presentation about the company (which in hindsight was a bit of a waste of time) was the bit that seemed to last the longest. We then had two group sessions to complete as well as a confirmatory aptitude test.

The first group task seemed to go okay and we all came to the same conclusion as to our answer. We worked efficiently and quickly and had fifteen minutes to spare which we attempted to use up double and triple checking the answer. We were left with five minutes at the end for which we could see no possible doubt that we were wrong and so handed in our answers.

The confirmatory aptitude test was a little trickier than I had imagined. We had thirteen minutes to do a cut-down version of the online test but this time there was no time-out to force us onto the next sections. As such, I ended up with quite a few missing answers in the final section (which were the ones that required some real thought).

The second task didn’t go as well but everyone contributed and although we ran out of time we managed to come up with a solution to the problem. I fear it may have been this task that let us down as shortly after I arrived home from Portsmouth, I received an email informing me that I had been unsuccessful in my application. It was a good experience though and I definitely think I learned something from the day. I was surprised that my application form was accepted in the first place and so getting this far has, for me, been a great achievement.
