Tree Felling

I have taken to the outdoors today for a spot of tree felling. This wasn't my intention at the beginning of the day however, my assistance as a 'tall person' - something I'm not sure I agree with but still - was called upon to try and trim back some trees overhanging into our garden from next door.

I quite enjoy heights and ladders so I was happily cutting away at some of the harder to reach branches when the man from the garden behind us (who's trees I was chopping) came out and started shouting at me. "You'd better not be cutting down my trees otherwise I'll do you". I can understand him being cautious about how much I was cutting down but there is really no need to "do me" whatever that may entail. I am quite within my rights to cut down branches overhanging into our side of the garden and so I reassured him that I was only cutting down the bits that were overhanging.

Clearly not content with that retort, he continued to watch me for the next half an hour or so whilst I balanced precariously trying to reach the upper branches. I definitely broke the climbers always three points of contact rule as sometimes I had only one. Thankfully I didn't fall but if I had have done I would be cushioned by a big pile of tree branches - not exactly a soft landing. Once he had gone I could aim for the higher branches that were a little bit more difficult to reach and required some ingenuity. I'm sure he wouldn't have been happy to see what I was doing but in the end, the bit that I took off was on our side, his bit just might be a little bit bent!

There was one particularly awkward bit that had been chopped down on a previous attempt and had been left hanging in the trees. It was dead and making the trees look rather unsightly with its brown leaves so I decided to pull it down. Ideally it would have been pushed up and over the trees but it was too high up for that to be an option and instead it had to be hauled down through the leaves. It took the combined weight of me and my mum to get it down and took a good five minutes of pulling. Had I have attempted it on my own, I fear I may have been slung into next doors garden with the elastic force.
