A Bit of a Tip

Somehow, whenever gardening gets done in this house, it is always just after the green waste has been collected. As such, we decided that leaving almost fifteen bags of garden rubbish outside in the hot and damp weather for a week and a half would be a bad idea. A trip to the tip was in order and it has changed a lot since I was last there.

I have to say, I never thought I would be blogging about a a rubbish dump but the vast improvement that has been made is worthy of comment I believe. Also I haven't done anything else of note today and this was all I could think of. Previously this waste disposal facility had an entrance that looked more akin to a race-track marked out with red and white plastic barrier - perhaps like something you might have to complete as part of a driving test for handling. The skips used to be plonked on the ground such that you would have to haul the rubbish up a set of meta steps by the side of each skip in order to dump your waste.

No longer however, as it has had a makeover. The area has now been split into two levels so that on the upper level - where you and the car full of rubbish is - the top of the skip is on the floor so no more step climbing. The entrance has got rid of the plastic barrier and replaced it with a proper kerbed road. It all looks very neat and professional - which is difficult to pull off for somewhere primarily concerned with waste disposal. That said, these places are called "Household Recycling Centres" nowadays rather than "tip" so perhaps they are simply living up to their new names.
