The Final Training Day

It is all nearly over and I'm slightly sad to see the end of it. The twelve or so juniors who may only have spoken to each other once or twice have got to know each other really very well and have become part of the TSC family. Today's training was much the same as yesterday but this time in the Fusion. The set up in here is on a much smaller scale than the Foundry and a lot of the equipment is permanently installed.

The first session of the day covered two areas, AV and Fusion lights. AV involves a lot of remote controls, projectors, DVD players, plasma screens and switch boxes to route the various sources to the relevant destinations. This time around, the only major problem we came across was setting the DVD to repeat and other than that it all went fairly smoothly. Next up was lights and we were each given a computer and some lights to play with. The Fusion system uses Freestyler to control the lights and the interface can be left such that a DJ has access to a couple of buttons that he can use to change the lights if he wants to rather than having to be trained on the Perl. This was also fairly easy as two of our group had already been to the Freestyler training session before Easter and I have been using it on my laptop since then.
The final session was sound and the spec was for a superstyler DJ. We were iven marks out of ten for each of the tasks for this session and overall we did a lot better than the other groups. The biggest problem we had this time around was no sound - which seems like a pretty big problem really. So far as we could see, all of the equipment was working alright because we had the monitors working fine and the speakers we added were working as well. It turns out that the trainer had created a problem with the install speakers to try and get us thinking. He had turned the gain down to -∞ once we finally found the very small knob in a rack of dials and knobs taller than me, everything was fine.

To celebrate the end of training, we were all given guestlist tickets to tonight's PopTarts. It was a superb night and we ended up taking over the stage in the Fusion for a large majority of the night - once the karaoke woman was gone. The theme was Glee but thankfully we didn't hear too much of that and got a lot of retro pop instead.
