The next two days are split into four sections and we have been divided into four groups so that we can rotate between them all. Today we were Foundry based and the first section is lighting. After yesterday's Perl training session, today was more focussed on rigging the lights and making the physical connections. Our group seemed to develop a rather bad habit of wireless communication - which (for obvious reasons) doesn't work.
The next half of the day was sound based and once again involved re-stacking the PA system. Having learned the layout from Wednesday, this was pretty easy and the DJ set-up is something that has become almost second nature now. The only new thing here was the radio microphones which we'd not used before and we made an ever so slightly big mistake cabling up the stage monitors. Thinking about it, insisting they are the same volume as the main PA is slightly unreasonable but you learn best by making mistakes. We made a vague attempt to EQ the system but none of us really had any idea what we were doing in that department. It's quite easy to tell when something sounds good or bad but knowing where to start from a flat EQ is pretty daunting and having the EQ in a separate room doesn't help much either as you have to run between rooms to hear the effect.
Tonight's social was a poker night but most of the juniors were far too tired to go, myself included. I'm not a big poker fan on the best of days and apart from a very small bit of knowledge about the game I've only really played once so not my cup of tea really.
lights rigging and a bit more perl not v much though
