Barbecue

Today's volunteer was the most difficult person to track down. For all of the others, one phone call to say "I'm outside" or simply recognising each other from the description I emailed was enough. Today however, not only was he slightly late - so much so that I was just starting to walk back home when he rang but when he did ring, all I heard was static and then nothing. I tried phoning back - nothing, I sent a message to the number (which was not a UK number so probably cost me quite a lot of money) and the reply came that it was indeed my tester.

I finally got through and found who I was looking for. We had been sitting no more than ten metres away from each other for at least five minutes but I had been expecting a girl not a boy. All I had to go by was a name and I believe it was an African name so based on the fact that all of my previous volunteers had been female, it never even occurred to me that this one might be female. We found each other in the end after some arm waving and got on with it.

Today was probably one of my most productive days in terms of work output. I found a space in the engineering computer room, in fact I was one of just two people in there! I gathered the data from my questionnaire and produced some pretty graphs to use. As a little reward, I decided to use my food voucher from Saturday's Pop Tarts to treat myself to lunch at the Interval - spicy meatball and mozzarella ciabatta with spicy potato wedges. It took me about three quarters of an hour to get through this monster lunch but at the same time I managed to write three pages (on paper) of dissertation.

The final treat of the day was a barbecue at my friend's house for which I kindly donated some fairy cakes - slightly oddly shaped due to a lack of cake tins but tasty nonetheless. A fun but strange evening where I met all of her friends and managed to remember most of their names. They are so very different from my friends but it is sometimes nice to have a break from the norm.
