Behind the Scenes at Population

The last of the regular union events to work was Population and today I have done it! I have now worked all of the weekly regular events and it is now time to pick my favourites. By far the easiest and most enjoyable events have been Roar and Pop Tarts. The two worst ones have been Space and Tuesday Club but I am probably being unfair to them giving them prejudice because of the genre of music they play. I did learn the most at those events and there is so much to do that the chances of being bored are fairly slim. Working in the octagon for the first time was pretty amazing really and I would love to try it with a different event - possibly even a Headphones disco. Unfortunately the next Headphones Disco coincides perfectly with my birthday and I can't see myself wanting to work then but who knows.

As for population, it required a little more work than Roar because the stage is taken down at the end of Pop Tarts on a Saturday evening and so must be rebuilt on the Monday. This took a bit of time and after finishing, I was the dirtiest I had been out of all the events so far. We just about missed out on Interval food as well because the chef was being moody and didn't want to cook for five people before he shut. To be fair to them, they do officially stop serving at 9pm and I would probably be thinking the same thing if I were in their position. Monday nights are the best for Interval food as well because they have a special offer on all of the main meals which brings them in under the price of the food voucher.

The night itself was also pretty good, the Computer Science Society were out in force and I joined them for a while during the event which took away some of the boredom and meant I didn't have to sit in the freezing cold crew room. There was a samba band playing so the comfy crew room was being used by them and we were relegated to the room with no roof where the inside of the fridge (switched off) is warmer than the room itself! I also go the chance to use a confetti gun which was pretty good and it worked without fail too which saved a lot of potential embarrassment. It is amazing how those things suddenly turn the TSC crew from invisible minions into highly attractive things and suddenly all of the punters are looking and pointing waiting for them to go off.
