Purest Green

After making some mini mince pies the other day, there was a lot of leftover pastry and so it was decided that the surplus should be used to make a treacle tart. My mum had the impression that it would be a simple task of filling a blind baked pastry case with golden syrup and then covering it with a sprinkling of dessicated coconut (in place of the breadcrumbs). As soon as I started mixing the two together, I knew something was wrong and suspected that several more ingredients were necessary, mainly melted butter and after failing to find a recipe in the huge collection of cook books, the internet confirmed by suspicions. Not only was butter needed, but an egg and some cream (although I suspect the latter is optional).

We were trying to use up the coconut that had been bought for this and so it was already coloured blue. At the time, I didn't think to much of it - it was only a small amount and the coconut didn't look especially blue anyway. I was wrong and as the pictures below show, blue coconut + yellow butter + golden syrup = green treacle.

Thankfully cooking it turned the top golden although the insides are still very green! It is also a little bit on the runny side which I am attributing to using coconut instead of the more absorbent breadcrumbs. Still, the missing piece was the bit I tried and ate and I'm still here with no unwanted side effects so I deem it very tasty and safe to eat!

After looking for laptops, I eventually managed to narrow the final list of about 16 down to just four and the frugal side of me opted for the cheapest of the candidates, this one - the HP G61 110SA and hopefully when it arrives it will be very good. I was tempted by the slightly unnecessary but cool Acer option which included a fingerprint reader or the other HP choice that included a remote control but I decided to save the £100 difference because I probably wouldn't have used them very much. As for the delivery date - I have no idea but it is unlikely to be before the new year and I would expect it to be here by about the 5th. A perfect distraction from my real work! At this rate I am never going to get my impossible speech processing assignment finished.
