Why is it that sleeping for long periods of time just makes you more tired? Maybe it's just me but if I stay in bed for longer than about ten hours, sleep seems to have a detrimental effect on my state of alertness. Today was one of those days and I decided I needed a lie in - which I now regret because come 10 o'clock when we are due to go out, I was wanting to be tucked up in bed. After finally getting up, I decided it was about time to start on my chores list; I had to buy milk and eggs and a new bulb for my lamp that I broke a couple of weeks ago. The problem was that this is no ordinary lamp and therefore takes no ordinary bulb. The inventor of this lamp decided it would be a good idea to use a bulb that no one sells so after trudging around and visiting no less than three hardware stores the area, I still have no bulb and have now had to order one from eBay. Thanks to the forthcoming postal strikes, it is unlikely I will see this bulb until late next week at best.
Today marked the fist of the house birthdays, the rest not due until next year now but still in time honoured tradition, a cake was to be made to celebrate the coming special 21st anniversary of his birth. I'd have made a cake regardless of the age but 21 is something a bit special I think so I put some extra effort into it. After learning from last time when I made a complete mess of it, I decided to be extra careful. Last time was only a couple of weeks after moving in to the house and we hadn't quite got to grips with the oven yet; in our defence, we are not stupid but there are no markings on this oven, the temperature dial has no numbers on it and the settings dial has only a few faint lines. It turns out that what we thought was the oven setting was oven and grill and therefore last time, the top cooked way before everything else although thanks to some quick thinking (and a good sense of smell) on my part it was saved and I am assured that it was most delectable. This time I got the right setting but the temperature was a little bit off and I am still none the wiser as to where abouts 180° is on the dial. It worked out fine in the end though and despite the revelation that the person in question does not really like jam, a key ingredient in said cake, the general consensus was that it was a success.
The plan for the evening was a trip to Corporation and as reported here you will know that the last visit to this club was a complete and utter flop. This time was much more successful and was almost the best night out I'd had at the venue until some idiot decided to throw his drink all over us. It wouldn't have been so bad but the mixer of choice in this place is Irn Bru and the drinks come in pint measures. For the next two hours or so we were covered in sticky orange stuff and somewhat spoiled what was a great evening. I even managed to convince everyone to stay in the indie room, something I rarely manage thanks to a collection of questionable musical taste from some members of party.
