Tonight I went back to the 90's - well sort of, in fact it was a visit to a 90's themed nightclub. Nonetheless, it made me realise just how long ago the 90's actually were. When I refer to the 90's in music terms I normally mean the late 90's as it was at this time that I was just at the age when music started to play an important part in my life but also because music has the wonderful ability of being able to form strong links with memories whether they be good or bad. Now if I were a scientist, I could pretend to understand how the memory works and how music strengthens the synapses and creates extra links but I'm not and I'm not even sure that last bit was any more than nonsense. The music of this period mostly bring back very fond memeories of primary school and how simple life was back then. The most complicated decisions we had to make were what to wear to the disco or what sort of sweets to buy. I also remember wanting to be older all the time and how horrible it was to be young; everyone always said that these were the best days of your life and to make the most of them - but you never do.
The other thing that bugs me about this particular outing is why it hasn't been done before. I have been in Sheffield for just over two years now and until tonight, had not stepped foot in this place bar one night at the end of last term when we managed ten minutes in there for a quick drink and a game on the ItBox before concluding that all of the students had gone home and that it felt very weird being the only ones in the club other than an old man supping a pint at the bar. This was on a student night as well! Now that I have sampled the delights of a Tuesday night at Babylon (that's the name of the club by the way) I look forward to visiting again soon.
