I arrived fairly late for yesterday's barbecue and so ended up taking the cake I made back home with me. I had planned to share it out during the TSC meeting today but somehow totally forgot about it and ended up leaving it in the office instead. Despite having spent the morning chasing down serviettes for the cake - the sot of sponges I make are far more suited to being eaten with a fork and on a plate than on the move. My first thought was to pop to the local shops and pick some up before hand however, to my disgust the Co-op were selling them for about £2.20 for 20! There was no way I was paying that much and I probably needed a few more than 20 anyway so the only thing for it was to hop into town and get some from the pound shop.
I was fairly confident that they would sell them as I had seen them there before but time was tight if I wanted to be at the meeting on time. By the time I got off the bus I had about ten minutes to get the napkins and get to the meeting. No chance. The shop was five minutes away and the meeting room fifteen minutes from that plus the time it would take to find and pay for it. To make things worse, the queue in the shop (on a Monday afternoon) was enormous and I spent ten minutes queuing. Still, I managed to get 200 serviettes for 99p and so even with the bus fare it was cheaper than 20 would have been from the Co-op.
I arrived at the meeting about fifteen minutes late, so concerned about getting there as fast as possible that I forgot all about the cake! The reason I wanted to be there early was because I was going to commit myself to doing some tech positions this week. I had written the previous weeks off with the excuse that I wanted to be doing my dissertation during the event and so wouldn't have time to do anything else - not that I ever got much work done but still.
As it turns out, I wasn't late at all and the meeting hadn't got further than general banter yet. This is why it takes an hour to do something that could so easily be done in twenty minutes. I managed to get two lighting positions - Roar on Wednesday and Pop Tarts on Saturday. I'm quite excited about it now and ended up spending my evening designing my lighting rig. After the meeting a few of us headed down to the Fusion bar for some lunch. I had a food voucher to spend from Saturday and couldn't resist a free lunch.
Tonight's event was Population (as a punter this time). It was my friends birthday during the Easter holidays and he decided that he wanted to celebrate now for some reason. It was a good night out and nice to be on the other side for a change rather than having to worry about things if they went wrong. Coming back at the end of the evening my friends decided they wanted to get some food, the takeaway had literally just closed its doors but did that stop them? No. They somehow managed to persuade the man to open up his shop AND give them discounts on their food. The magic of alcohol. I always feel really embarrassed in these situations but have learned to deal with it by now. Clearly as long as they don't mind making fools of themselves then neither should I.
