A Smoky Event

TSC work will start to get a bit repetitive from now on as I've worked at least one of each of the regular events now. Tonight was another Pop Tarts but thankfully there were some interesting happenings to keep me interested. During the set up there was a problem with a few of the lights and I still don't know what is wrong with them but it is being looked at on Monday. Despite this the lights still looked pretty impressive - something I'm always aware of for when I start venturing into the tech positions. For the mean time however, being a general crew bod means I can get a little bit of work done during the event with only a few interruptions.

The major interruption of tonight came courtesy of the fire alarm, something you really don't want to hear whether you are working or attending an event. I have only been at one event previously where the fire alarm went off and it was too close to the end of the night to warrant waiting for it to reopen. Tonight however, I was working and didn't have a choice in the matter. After getting out of the building, we realised we had no idea where we are supposed to congregate. As workers, we have to be accounted for but because of the building works, the location of the meeting point has been under debate and hasn't yet been formalised.

On that basis we went to one of the two places it could have been, alternating between the two waiting for them to let us back in. We were eventually found and told we could come in but had to squeeze through the mass of people gathered around the entrance. Just as we did finally manage to get back inside, everyone was let back in anyway. Turns out some smoke from the smoke machines had found its way into the atrium and sounded the alarm. You'd have thought they'd make it a bit more tolerant to smoke or install a heat sensor if they know it will be smoky.

At the end of the night when everyone had cleared off I was amazed at the state of the floor. The worst I have seen it so far was at a ROAR event (where the bottles are buy one get one free) and despite no drinks promotions this evening, many people had decided that the floor would prefer to have it.

On the good side, I managed to fix all of the bugs found during yesterday's session so I can prepare for the real testers next week - if any reply to my emails that is!
