Today was the last day I have to get up early which is a huge relief because I am now knackered. It's not even as if I've done loads - in fact, apart from the morning drive to the other side of Birmingham and back, there isn't a lot else that I've done.
I did however, make a point of stopping to get some petrol before the dreaded rise on Sunday.
On the subject of which, today was budget day and I decided I would actually watch it for a change rather than just reading about it in the news later this afternoon. Sadly there was pretty much nothing in there that affected me but I did find it highly amusing that no more than about five minutes after the cider tax had been announced, the Wurzels (and various spellings thereof) became a trending topic on Twitter.
On the work front, I finally put pen to paper (metaphorically of course) and managed to spew out just under 1000 words which I consider to be a good start. My aim, for the end of the holidays is 8000 ish which puts me a little bit behind the entirety of last semester's section. On the downside, this means that I will still have almost 8000 more words to write before reaching the 60 page limit although it is a limit rather than a guideline and I should have much greater scope for graphs, diagrams and pictures so perhaps that figure will get a bit smaller.
Single of the week this week bends the rules ever so slightly. I have caught this band at the very early stages of their career thanks to a rare viewing of our local news offering BBC Midlands Today. They featured this band on the programme since they have been spotted from MySpace by a member of Blondie and have since been signed. Having not caught the name the first time round, I spent the evening trawling the BBC website to try and find some mention of it. Disappointingly, you can't watch local news on the iPlayer and the only video I could find was a windows media player version of the lunchtime broadcast which didn't seem to feature it. I did however manage to find it by recalling the first part of their name and find some information about them playing at a local arts festival. After that, I quickly found their MySpace page and started listening. The first song I heard I was hooked and I'm not surprised they have been snapped up so quickly.
The name of the band is The Arcadian Kicks - the name inspired by Birmingham's Arcadian centre, more information is available about them on their MySpace and Last.fm pages. If you want a FREE download of another of their songs, Black & White then you can join their mailing list by filling in the relevant information on their Facebook fan page. The song that I have chosen is the song that caught my attention, 19 Days. The reason I am cheating is because it hasn't been released yet (as far as I know) but you can listen to it there whenever you want or click the play button below!
