I was only planning to spend the night in Sheffield so today was another travel day. I had to clear out the fridge full of mouldy food because it had been left on with stuff in it over the holidays. I managed to get some milk from the Co-op to have with my cereal thankfully, otherwise I would have been screwed for food. Dry Weetabix is never very nice but the shop had opened it's doors to the new years shoppers and all was fine.
The roads were unsurprisingly empty and the drive back home was almost effortless apart from one minor incident. A small red car - which was being driven by a complete maniac - was coming up to a roundabout and doing about 50mph (in a 30 zone) in the right hand lane, as he was coming closer to the roundabout, he swerved from the far right lane to the far left lane - nearly taking out three or four cars in the process.
Compulsory viewing for the evening came courtesy of Dr Who and the threat of the end of time. The Time Lords have grown angry after having been imprisoned in the time lock at the end of the time war. They decide that in order to escape, they will bring about the end of time itself and therefore allow themselves to evolve into a higher state of consciousness, the Master does not initially realise that he has been manipulated and that the noise inside his head was put there by the time lords for this specific purpose. Eventually The Doctor manages to sever the link and prevent the Time Lords from returning but later has to sacrifice himself to save Wilf. As a nice round up to the series, The Doctor goes back and forth visiting all of his companions throughout his life in this form and saves the lives of Martha and Mickey from a Sontaran and saves Sarah-Janes adopted son from being run over. He visits Rose (although before they originally met as she is stuck in a parallel dimension) and makes one last visit to Captain Jack where he gives him the name of a man who appeared as a crewman on the Titanic. It is speculated that because he was exposed to so much radiation, his regeneration was so violent but it has always been maintained that the regeneration process is a bit dodgy so perhaps this is just a particularly bad one.
As for the next series and how well Matt Smith will do as a replacement, I do not know but he seems to have made a decent entrance at least and should hopefully still be reasonably energetic to give the pace to the show that David gave. Unfortunately we have to wait until the spring for the next series to start but at least that's something to look forward to.
