What a horrible day! Windy, rainy and actually quite mild considering. So I finally got round to collecting my parcel from the sorting office. It arrived last Thursday but it has taken me this long to get round to collecting it. It was the new Dan Brown book - The Lost Symbol and I'm hoping that I will have some time to get to read it in the near future. At the moment, I can't see that happening any time soon what with work and having to watch all of that wonderful TV that they keep churning out. Maybe it's because its the winter...? It certainly seemed that in the summer it was music's turn to shine and now that the colder months are upon us TV had taken its place. I'm still yet to get through the current bedtime reading, The Atheists Guide To Christmas which has so far turned out to be mostly very entertaining with a few unusual or boring chapters that have been skipped.
I was coerced into going out this evening and the venue was the union and their Space event. It has to be said that this is my least favourite of all of the union nights after being disappointed with it for all but a couple a times last year when the resident DJ went on holiday. I decided however - after enjoying embrace the other week - so I decided to give it a go and not let past experiences affect my judgement. How wrong could I have been. I think I can safely say that it was one of the worst nights out in my university experience and I will almost certainly not be revisiting unless there are some extraneous circumstances. The only thing that makes a night out good for me is the music and tonight I think I heard a maximum of three what I would class as 'acceptable' songs. Close to the beginning of the night the DJ promised to play some Muse as part of a birthday request and so I got my hopes up somewhat. Sadly nothing of the sort materialised and the whole night was awash with R'n'B and general noise really. I don't mean to sound like an old person but when all you can hear is bass, that doesn't constitute music as far as I'm concerned. To top it all off, on the way home we were lucky enough to have dry weather until my friend decided to mention this fact and as if on cue, the heavens opened and it went from a light drizzle to full on harsh rain before I managed to get home. I tried running the last few metres up my road and so came in wet and collapsed on the sofa for about five minutes, trying to regain my breath. I'm just to damn lazy to do any real exercise but there are times when I wish I'd put the effort in so that I could run for more than a few yards without having to collapse like an asthmatic afterwards.
