Movie Night

Last night got pretty boring and I decided that I'd done enough work for one weekend. As a reward I decided to watch a film, G.I. Joe and it wasn't as bad as I had initially expected. I had a bad feeling as soon as I heard Christopher Eccleston attempting a Scottish accent in the fist scene. It's a shame because no matter how hard he tries I always see him as Dr. Who and it will probably haunt him forever, which is slightly ironic as if I remember correctly, the reason he left Dr. Who in the first place was to prevent being type-cast. Getting over that initial preconception, it turned out to be a half-decent movie. A few interesting characters popping up: Mr Eko from lost for example, this time sporting his native cockney accent and it was nice to see the UK getting some representation in what is usually an all American hero movie. I think they went slightly overboard on the tech front as well which made it slightly unbelievable, especially those blue ray guns and the super suits.

Second film of the night comes courtesy of Richard Curtis, something I hadn't cottoned onto until my housemate pointed out that it looked like Love Actually. I hadn't noticed this either until he noticed it so that shows how much attention I was paying! This was a little more light hearted than G.I. Joe and I think I was probably more in the mood for this genre. A very good cast with many big names made for some brilliant acting and an interesting plot, which I assume to be slightly historically accurate in the fact that pirate radio was such a big deal. What was strange however was that some of the funniest moments came from the 'boring' bits when the scenes involving the government minister were on. I found it particularly amusing when he shouted "arse", the childish instinct in me took over for a bit there. I also thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas scene and when he reads the joke to himself rather than out loud, also the crackers when just the insides are pulled and his wife covers her ears.

Single Of The Week
I was struggling to think of one this week; there seems to be a vacuum of good music after the massive influx over the summer. Nevertheless, a quick route around my recently played list and I came across this gem. I had been a big fan of "Too Fake" the first single I heard from this band and since getting my hands on the album recently, this song has stood out as a firm favourite. The band is Hockey and as a piece of mini trivia, the bass player made a guest appearance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks last week. The song title is Song Away and as a warning, it is very very catchy, you have been warned!
