A fairly lazy day today by all accounts, I failed to make my 10 o'clock lecture after yesterdays late night but that was to be expected. I had every intention of going but simply couldn't bare it when my alarm clock went off at half past eight. For some reason I had a particularly restless nights sleep and remember tossing and turning and I seemed to have a purpose to it if that makes sense. It seems weird even trying to describe it now but it felt like there was a good reason for this strange behaviour as if I had to turn over and shuffle around in order to achieve something. One thing I definitely didn't achieve was a decent nights sleep thats for sure and I am paying for it today. I have now broken my record of 100% attendance but four weeks is pretty damned good taking into account my previous form.
I only just about made my opticians appointment which I had moved from Saturday in the hope that I would be going home to Birmingham to have a meeting about my website project but that fell through (again) at the last minute and I couldn't be bothered to change my appointment back. It turned out to be very worthwhile however, as I have vastly improved the sight in my left eye and is now far superior to my right whereas previously the right had always been the dominant eye. I knew my prescription had changed because wearing my glasses gave me much better vision than my lenses but when I had the check-up today I saw just how much they had changed. I can now read another six lines smaller than I could previously and that shocked me quite a bit. I have been lucky when it comes to eyesight really because although I wear glasses / lenses my vision is good enough not to need them to actually see. I cannot imagine not being able to see anything more than a hazy blur without reaching for the specs because for the first hour or so of the day (usually until I switch the computer on) I can function perfectly well without them. The only things I tend to have problems with are trivial things like reading the now and next guide on the TV.
This has caused some problems however and I remember one particular incident that made me think twice when in this situation again. I was on my third or fourth driving lesson and as I walked towards the car to meet my driving instructor he mentioned that I didn't have my glasses on and asked whether I had my lenses in or not. I didn't have them in and was about to go out on the roads without any visual aid. Looking back this is pretty scary as I wouldn't have much of a chance of being able to read the road signs other than recognising shapes and I could quite easily have caused an accident had I not seen a cyclist or a pedestrian.
On many occasions I have forgotten to put my glasses on when going to school and it has generally not been until a teacher in assembly has noticed that I am not wearing them and asked out of curiosity if I had decided to start wearing lenses. They then see me pat my face in confusion to realise that I had forgotten to bring them again. Often I haven't noticed until trying to read the white board and realising that it is all a messy blur. This is particularly difficult if the teachers writing is difficult to read at the best of times - as was the case with my GCSE maths teacher.
So now I can see again and am thus far very pleased with my new lenses although I won't get any more for another two or three weeks because they have to make sure that they are working correctly before they give me a load of the wrong prescription.
I've spent the rest of the day in front of the computer not really achieving much really, I watched the latest episode of heroes which is starting to get a bit better and actually managed to finish on a decent cliffhanger. Not entirely sure what role the deaf lady is going to play at the moment so I will have to watch out for her because she clearly has an important part to play. On a slightly down note, it looks like the rain has come to stay for a bit and the outlook for the next few days is heavy rain. Maybe autumn has finally arrived?
