It has taken me the best part of a week, but I have finally caught up with my Machine Learning notes. I have condensed 9 lectures worth of material into 20 typed pages of beautifully formatted notes, complete with professional equations and whilst it all looks very nice, I am not sure I have understood any of it. Ah well, that will be the task for the Christmas holidays.
As for the rest of the day, well that was pretty much all of it really. I haven't even managed to leave the house today - which breaks one of the rules I set myself for this term, leave the house at least once a day. Never mind, I can make up for it tomorrow when I have to walk up the hill in the rain.
I have also come across a new TV programme to waste my time watching, and it comes in the form of another American drama series called Defying Gravity. It has had its premiere on UK TV today on BBC 2 and whilst the story is very gripping, for some reason I'm not tempted to go looking for the next ten or so episodes that have already been aired over the pond. Maybe that will start next series, otherwise I will get no work done for the next week as I'll be spending all of my time watching that! Somehow American TV seems to be far better than British TV at the moment and the only thing we seem to be getting bang on the mark is comedy panel shows like Have I Got News For You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks. I guess its because the American TV networks have got a lot more money to spend on these big budget shows that we simply couldn't even dream of. The basic premise of this show for those of you who haven't seen it yet - and I strongly suggest you check it out - is that a group of astronauts are on a six year mission around the solar system, the first stop is Venus and the first two episodes are tracking the cadets through the training up until they prepare to leave near earth orbit for Venus. On the way, already several mysterious concepts have been introduced which makes it similar to Lost in some ways. There seems to be some mysterious thing, a creature perhaps? that has chosen which cadets make the grade and which cannot go on the mission. There are also two characters who have had corresponding visions of the future (although neither knows that the other has experienced the same visions yet). I am intrigued to see how the storyline progresses and becomes even more gripping.
Whilst I was watching it, I also noticed an advert for James May's Toy Stories starting next Tuesday. I've been following the news articles online about his escapades whilst filming for this series and am fascinated to see how it was all done, the plasticine garden that won an award at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the life sized house made from lego, I can't wait!
