It's Been a While

Greetings all, sorry it's been so long but I'm afraid the gaps in-between posts may continue in their infrequency for the near future. I have found that any spare time I have recently has been taken up with either catching up with work or catching up with sleep.

A few things of note that have happened in the last few weeks, mainly TSC related. Last Saturday (16th October) I Stage Managed Stewart Francis' "Tour de Francis" in the Octagon and I even made it into his stand up routine! He asked me before hand for the name of some local football teams for one of his jokes. What with my football knowledge being severely limited, the joke turned into a mickey-take of 'a guy backstage' continually going "erm... er...". The audience seemed to find it funny so I'm glad I could help.

Today marked my tenth donation of blood and I got my bronze award. I got a new debit card and my old one has been chopped up and binned. I now have the daunting task if memorising a new 16 digit number so that I can once again go on internet shopping sprees without having to dig around to my wallet.

I won a Twitter competition with H&M and ended up with a £100 gift card as the prize. I am usually slightly dubious about these sort of competitions but as it was lead by a reputable company then I decided I might as well take part. Amazingly, I won - which was totally unexpected. This on the 3rd of September and I am yet to spend a single penny of it. Finding time to go to the shops has been tough and even once I'm in there, finding something to buy would be even more difficult.

I have now embarked on the Genesys project and for the first week, things seemed okay. I managed to pick up Ruby fairly quickly and was happily getting on with the demonstration task. The following week, they decided to introduce the 'on Rails' part to things. Suddenly things got very confusing. I now have to get to grips with Rails and something called HAML. To make things more difficult, I have thus far failed to get it running on my home PC. I cannot use Linux at the moment as I can;t get the VPN necessary to access the files to work. It may end up that I have to get the files on windows and transfer them to work on them. A bit of a pain but if it means I'm not spending every last spare hour between 9 and 5 in the lab then I will try a lot of things!

I didn't keep a track of all of the new releases since my last post but one that I am particularly fond of at the moment is Forget You by Cee-Lo Green. I'm not a fan of the original version - far too much bad language for my liking but the cleaner version is very very good. I'm looking forward to the next release from Gnarls Barkley.
