A New Set of Wipers

As I was driving back from Portsmouth the other week, I noticed that one of my windscreen wipers was flapping around at the bottom. At this point I was more concerned about it not falling off before I got home than anything else. The weather was changeable and when it rained, it rained quite heavily. The last thing I wanted was a wiper out of order - and if the blade came off then would it scratch my windscreen?

Thankfully, none of this came to fruition and I made it back without having to deal with it. This morning however, I decided that I should do something about it before my trip down to Reading on Saturday. I half heartedly attempted to glue it back together with poly-cement but then realised that it was silicone rather than rubber and it didn't have quite the right effect - it was pretty much useless to be honest. Instead I decided to buy a set of new ones - I've had the car nearly four years now and haven't replaced them yet, despite the advice to do so every year! That also assumes that they were new when I bought the car - also unlikely, which means they've had a pretty good run.

They weren't expensive - about £20 for a pair and that included fitting them. I did think about attempting to do it myself but decided I would probably make a mess of it. Now that I've seen it done, I rather wish I'd kept hold of the extra £3. It took him less than 30 seconds to replace them and he just shoved the old ones in the bin outside the shop! I at least thought they might have been 'disposed' of and for that price, perhaps even recycled.

Still, as I tested them on the way out of the car park I immediately noticed the difference. One wipe and my screen was clear! I'm so used to having to switch them on fast every time I spray the screen that this was a real treat. Okay so maybe I'm getting a little bit too excited about this but the difference was remarkable.
