Another PC has been fixed! Continuing on from where I left off on Wednesday, I had to track down the logs for Microsoft Security Essentials to find out the name of the virus it had found. Despite not being able to remove the virus automatically, it did give me a name to search for and find an appropriate solution. It turned out to be a nasty rootkit but thankfully not too painful to remove with the right tools.
With that done, it was off to Space to do some lasering. I was slightly concerned about how it would look in the smaller venue as I had been told that running it was pretty rubbish because of the restrictions. That said, after I'd finished programming I was pretty happy with some of the looks I had managed to achieve. I had to sit on the floor outside the lighting booth so that I could actually see what shapes the laser was making but went back in the booth for the event. This was where the problems started to happen.
The first one was the lack of smoke/haze. Lasers can look amazing with smoke because you can see the beam, without it however, you just see the pattern it makes on the wall. Eventually, the hazers started working and I started to get some decent effects. Cue the laser breaking. No, seriously, just as the smoke started working, and things were starting to look good, it cut out on me. I was devastated. This was the first time I had properly broken something whilst working for the TSC. Thankfully it would appear that this is not a unique event and when the laser is moved to the Foundry it quite often dies so this made me feel a LOT better.
It did mean I had not much to do for the next three hours of the event but the time seemed to find itself flowing away quite nicely and the end of the event came soon enough.
