An Impulse Buy

I have decided to take the plunge and buy my domain name. I'm sure no-one else would ever want it but I get a bit panicky with these things and assume I have to snap them up before they get taken by someone else - as if someone else would dare steal my moniker. This same thought process is now why I have two Hotmail addresses and it is only laziness and lack of need that have prevented me from acquiring the @live.com extension as well.

I haven't quite worked out how to use this new domain yet because there seems to be no way of changing the default index.html page to my own. I don't even know whether I can do that as I only bought the domain name and no webspace. I always assumed they would give you a small amount of space to host the homepage or at least set up a redirect.

Basically all it will be - until I work out what a personal webpage is for - is to amalgamate all of my various online exploits together on one page. A sort of directory if you will. Other than that I have very limited use for it other than perhaps as a portal to my current hosting site.

I managed to use three forms of transport going about my early morning errands today. I was convinced to go for a walk at 08:30 this morning when I met up with one my friends last night (apparently that makes up for the massive pizza). Now that I've done it, I'm actually quite grateful to her for suggesting it. I managed to get all of my errands done before I would normally have had a chance to even check my emails of a morning. I cycled into Sutton (transport number 2) to give my other friend some money for the coach when I go and see Muse at Wembley later this year and also to exchange a broken foot pump at Halfords. I managed to coax my friend out of bed and had a good old catch up with him and came away with a C++ reference book as he was lucky enough to be taught it at his university. It was a but of a hassle trying to exchange the foot pump at first. It's a silly little problem resulting in a frozen pressure needle rendering it pretty useless for car tyres. I was expecting some resistance as I hadn't kept the box or the receipt but I did have the web order I placed. I know you should always keep the packaging and the receipt but this thing is 95% metal and my mum has had a very similar one for nearly thirty years and it still works fine so I didn't expect mine to last less than a year.

After initially refusing, the girl called her manager who thankfully had some common sense about him. He simply told her to give me a new one and send the old one back in the new one's packaging. Perfect as I couldn't care less about having a new box. With that sorted, the last transport link of the day was some shopping and petrol in the car. I might go for gold one day and add a plane, train, coach and shuttle to that list although that day is unlikely to ever come.
