The only event planned for today was a presentation on the Genesys Solutions module that we have the option of taking next year. Basically, it gives the students the experience of running a software development company which is a subsidiary of the University of Sheffield. It was one of the main reasons that I decided to do my degree in Sheffield and I've been quite looking forward to it for a long time. I had however, forgotten that this talk was happening today and although we received a reminder yesterday, I was reminded by a course mate at the TSC formal on Monday night. Had it not been for this I may not have even noticed the reminder email.
Whether or not missing the talk would have resulted in disastrous consequences I'm not sure - although I doubt it. Supposedly they were monitoring the attendance but the presentation they delivered was so awful and full of technical hitches, I think they had other things to concentrate on. First off they suffered from projector issues, something that seems to be as hit and miss as networking most of the time - especially during lectures. Once they finally got that sorted and the picture on the screen the wireless keyboard died and the presentation started reverting to rehearsed timings that had clearly been accidentally recorded as they skipped merrily though the content in seconds without giving anyone a chance to speak.
They eventually decided to ditch the Powerpoint and talk from the notes on the PC screen but managed to pull it back later on thankfully. A quick tour of the dedicated labs we will be using and we were done. It was quite informative although they wanted us to get in touch and potentially start the handover of some of the more demanding roles if we had particular interests but there is no chance I can fit that in seeing as every spare minute of the next three weeks will be filled with dissertation writing. Assuming that is that I get some volunteers to test my prototypes as so far I have amassed a grand total of one. I have today emailed one of my lecturers in the hope that they can mass mail the rest of my partially non computer science and Matlab using module group with the plea for help. No reply as yet but then I haven't had a reply from my tutor from Monday yet. Now is really not the best time to go into hiding!
