New Year Errands

Another day of no work but a reasonably good excuse I think. A few errands to run ended up taking about five hours rather than the two or three that I had budgeted for. Those are now out of the way however and I hope that once I have inevitably spent tomorrow doing absolutely nothing and watching TV then I can once more stare blankly at my notes and the Pure Data screen, in an attempt to divine a solution to my assignment.

On the box this evening, we have a welcome return to the Hustle crew, once again pulling off their long cons on the rich and stupid. This weeks episode sees the 'mark' as a fictional Sir Fred Goodwin (ex RBS chief) and in fact it almost went as far as trying to make a political statement that he was completely undeserving of his extortionate pension. It is not for me to say whether he deserved it or not but it is unlike the BBC as a supposedly neutral organisation to allow someone to be portrayed as such. Another twist to this series sees Mickey come face to face with the eye of the law in the form of a new head of fraud called Lucy Britford (or Bitch-face as the rest of the crew affectionately call her). Of course they didn't get caught, that would be an amazing end to the series after just one episode, but they did come very close and only just about managed to turn it all around at the end.

Today also sees the start of a new series called Nurse Jackie, a dark American comedy which follows the life of - believe it or not - a nurse called Jackie. For some odd reason, the BBC are showing an episode every day this week so they must have a slot to fill or something. She has some very interesting traits that you would get immediately sacked for if they were discovered happening in the UK. She appears to snort some sort of stimulant drug before she starts every shift, she steals money from patients, fakes an organ donor card, flushes a patients ear down the toilet and is having an affair with a colleague and returning home to her husband and two kids!

Another highlight of the day was finding the new Alphabeat album up on YouTube, some very promising songs on there assuming that they are the final versions, still have to wait until the 1st of March for the actual release so that may not be the case. Still, if anything, I'd have thought they'd get better rather than worse.

On the subject of Music, I have realised that I haven't chosen a single of the week for some time now and should probably get on the case. To that end, I present this weeks choice - Delphic - and their new release Doubt. They are one of the long listed artists in the Sound of 2010 list and if the rest of their songs are as catchy as this, they have every chance of living up to the hype.
