A-Z of Music

Inspired by the Gadget Show's countdown of the best gadgets of the year, I have decided to spend the rest of the week attaining to a similar task. Mainly it will be to combat the tedium of having no work (or more accurately wanting to do no work) but seeing as it is the end of the decade and indeed the first decade of the millennium, it would be nice to reflect back on what has happened not only this year but in the last ten. This is likely to be the most memorable and activity filled decade of my life, from starting school in 2000 to starting university, holidays and adolescence.

So after a little bit of thought I am going to aim to find the best music and films of the year and decade although I suspect many of these will be weighted in favour of the last five years or so when I really started to develop my own taste in music rather than just copying everyone else. The other difficulty will be in tracking down the movies, music is easy because I can sort my library by year and simply pick out my favourite tracks but movies are much more difficult. The only good point here is that I am not a very regular cinema goer and as such I may struggle to come up with twenty movies let alone maybe fifty or one hundred which seems to be the norm for these things.

As part of this research, I have decided to ATTEMPT to listen to my entire music library before the new year. I might just about have enough time to complete this feat although it will be very tight indeed. I may end up selecting double speed play in the last few days to make sure I get through them all. I have worked out that I have 171 hours of music which equates to 14.25 days listening to 12hrs a day. Not sure that is really achievable on the basis that I will want to be watching TV and listening to some other things as well which would reduce the time I can spend listening to the music. At the moment I am least looking forward to getting stuck on V which contains the greatest number of songs since all of the Now albums and miscellaneous tracks are labelled as Various Artists. So far today I have managed about six hours although I did start in the afternoon so I lost about four hours perhaps although that still leaves me about two hours short of the target. Must try harder! Maybe I need to get some waterproof headphones so I can listen in the shower?
