Well it was at least, I will apologise in advance for any omissions as I am writing this several days after it actually happened. I decided to ban myself from the computer for today and spend the time eating/sleeping/doing general family stuff and it actually went quite well. So much so in fact that I think this has been one of the best Christmases in a while!
Not much to report on the present front as usual , Christmas when you are (sort of) grown up isn't nearly as fun as it is when you are a kid. Mainly because you know what you are getting if it is a present and if it isn't then it's just money. Not that I'm ungrateful in any way, money is almost the best sort of present because you can spend it on whatever you want, the only thing is that normally it just gets absorbed into my account and I never really know what I've spent it on - trying to apportion it out into significant things (by that I mean not just food or bills etc) would probably work itself out but that would take a long time so I never normally bother. I did get tickets to see La Roux in Sheffield next year which was the something I had specifically requested this year and I am aiming to buy an aerial for my bedroom at some point but I'm borrowing one from a friend to check the signal before I commit to anything. I did also get some unexpected gifts because my mum always likes to buy me something to build and something cheap just so I have something to unwrap. This year it was a 6 in one solar kit whereby you build a solar generator and motor thing and combined with various other bits and bobs become different models. Sadly there was very little sun about to actually use it and unless in direct sunlight, there isn't really enough power to move the motor but it kept me occupied for half an hour or so.
Mum was having the Christmas off this year so it was left to me, brother and step-dad to organise dinner and amazingly we pulled it off with only a few very minor glitches (not on my part of course). I gave my brother a lesson in gravy making and moaned at my step-dad for ignoring my advice on part-boiling potatoes and parsnips. The turkey was cooked perfectly though and not dry either so the main part was fine which is the important thing.
The rest of the day was spent in front of the box and the highlight was of course Dr Who and some very bizarre twists and turns I would never have seen coming and now cannot wait for new years day to see the conclusion of. Who knew that timelords could fly and 'zap' people? Another unexpected twist was that Gallifrey has somehow come back into the story despite supposedly being dead and gone - along with its inhabitants although that's the beauty of time, you get to play with causal loops, paradoxes and the like so basically anything is possible.
