Home time today and I'm actually quite looking forward to it. Not that I don't like Sheffield but at Christmas time it's nice to spend some time with the family. Thankfully the snow didn't hit hard enough to disrupt all of the travel and even the bin men were out in force bright and early this morning so I'd have no trouble getting home. Once I'd finally finished packing the car (and all of the other little additions that I'd forgotten), the car just about started first time - although it did seem a little bit annoyed that I was waking it up in the cold - the SatNav got working on the first go (although it took a while) so I knew that today was going to be a good day. It's those little signs that reassure you that the day ahead will be free of disruptions and things will happen just as you want them too.
I had to go home via Leicester to pick my brother up and amazingly I got there without any problems at all, and got home without too much disruption. The M1 was limited to 50 whilst the non-existent men worked on resurfacing the roads so it took a bit longer to get there than I'd hoped but the one advantage of it was that I seemed to use less fuel going via Leicester than I do normally going straight home, so much so that I thought my gauge had frozen for a while because it hadn't moved.
We had a family meeting to try and plan the events over the holidays and came up with several potential cinema outings, and a possible trip to the SnowDome. We made our own mini mince pies - which were miles better than the shop bought ones and spent the rest of the evening watching the telly. My first job of the holidays was to rewire the TV after loosing a SCART socket with the new cable box. After an initial consultation, I decided that the only way to do it would be to unplug all of the spaghetti and re wire the whole system. It took a good hour or so but in the end it all worked fine, all set for the Christmas TV marathon.
