A Bad Idea

Someone had the bright idea to go to the supermarket this afternoon, bearing in mind tat it is only five days before Christmas now, the only sensible time to get anything done in a reasonable amount of time is to take advantage of the 24 hour opening times and go at some silly hour in the morning. It as absolutely crammed and coupled with the unfamiliar layout of the store meant that we must have done about three or four laps of the place before we filled the trolley. I spent most of the time trying to curb my step-dad's spending spree trying to 'save money' by taking advantage of some of the special offers not realising that the best way to SAVE the money is to not buy them in the first place. As expected when we got home my mum got a little bit cross that we had ended up with duplicates of the same thing. Since I've been home there has been some sort of bizarre role reversal going on whereby I end up trying to stop my parents arguing when usually it is them stopping me fighting with my brother.

AS if that wasn't bad enough, I seem to have twisted my back trying to manoeuvre the trolley around so I am in pain whenever I move at the moment (which isn't the best Christmas present). Tonight was pretty good for TV though, we finally got to see James May's Lego house and then he joined his friends afterwards for Top Gear. First of all Toy Stories and the Lego house was quite simply a work of art and an amazing feat of engineering. Whoever the interior designer woman was, she should have been sacked from the offset - I know she probably wasn't being paid that much (if anything) but that doesn't excuse her from total incompetence on the engineering side of things. "Oh look here is a chair made from Lego" *sits on the chair* *chair collapses* "Okay back to the drawing board on that then, it looked nice though". I know dome fashion items aren't exactly fit for purpose but this was a chair for goodness sake! It is of no use to anyone if you can't sit on it. The rest of it was brilliant though and I would be more than happy to live in one of those for a day or two just to see how it feels. I might request a mattress and some pillows though and I'm not too sure how well equipped the kitchen would be; I can see some problems with a Lego oven.

Top Gear was as entertaining as usual and they managed to get into trouble again causing mischief wherever they went. I'm not sure they quite hit the nail on the head with the art gallery piece because I'm fairly sure people would pay to go and see the team regardless of exhibition. I certainly wouldn't pay to go to an art gallery even if there were cars there. I can't be doing with history and culture in that sense, my idea of a hellish holiday would be traipsing around museums and gallery's and I'd rather be labelled as 'uncultured' and sit around watching TV.

Tonight and tomorrow see the conclusion of Defying Gravity with the Beeb showing two episodes each night. I guess they are as desperate to see the back of it since it has achieved very poor viewing figures both here and in the US where is was cancelled before it had finished. I quite liked it really and although it seemed a bit of a stretch of the imagination, I'm a sucker for most sci-fi programmes. More mysteries surrounding the beta thing and it is revealed that it is mutating some of the crews genes. Jen finally tells both Rollie and Zoe that she cannot see or hear beta and after her and Rollie fall out, Rollie gets distracted checking his phone whilst driving home under the influence of alcohol and hits a cyclist. You'd have thought they'd have come up with some way of preventing these sorts of things 40+ years into the future but still he gets thrown in jail, stressing over what he has done. Although the woman he hit isn't dead yet (she is in a coma), Rollie cannot forgive himself for what he has done and Goss managed to pull some strings to get him out and keep the whole incident under wraps. Paula comes very close to losing her faith after Mintz probes into her visions from beta and whilst initially she perceives her vision as her miracle, on reflection she realises that it is something else. Since this event is the basis for her strong belief, she breaks down and goes to Steve for comfort. Hopefully by the end of tomorrow, some of the mysteries will be unravelled and we won't be left on a complete cliff hanger - especially if there is to be no second series.
