PANIC!

A major panic spread across the house this evening as a drastic situation arose. I was quite happily sitting in my room trying to work away at my dissertation when I got a distinct wiff of gas. I assumed someone had just not noticed that the gas had gone out on the cooker because there was someone in there making dinner. After a couple of minutes, the smell seemed to be getting stronger and I couldn't ignore it any longer. I had fears of my computer exploding and fires popping up out of nowhere. I saved my work online just in case and went downstairs to investigate. Oddly enough the smell seemed to be stronger upstairs and there was nothing wrong in the kitchen, in fact all of the hob rings were switched off. I headed back upstairs and a few minutes later my neighbour noticed the smell too and went to investigate. Still nothing could be found as the cause of the problem and we all carried on as usual. After tea a few housemates went to the local shops and when they got back they noticed the smell had come back. Proper panicking now and we decided the best course of action would be to shut the gas off at the mains. It turns out that the second smell was more a combination of dinner and air freshener so that made me feel slightly better. We left the mains off for a couple of hours and tried to ventilate the house a bit to get rid of the existing smell so that we could work out whether or not it was coming from us. It has been back on again for a good few hours now, I have relit the boiler (which proved a little difficult as the knob is broken) and no smell has returned.

Other than that there has been a group consensus that we need to go for a night out soon before we all go stir-crazy. It's a weird feeling but everything has started to become a bit lacklustre and mundane and we need a bit of excitement to spark some life back into the place. Also it gives us a chance to let off some steam through the medium of dance (and alcohol) and I think we deserve a rest after everyone seems to have buckled down these last couple of days and started to get some proper work done.

Sad news now and it would seem that Alphabeat's new album is not going to be released until next year! Initially it was due to be released a week or two after their first single from it, The Spell. I don't know who's idea it was to make this decision but in my opinion, they should be fired. How can I go that long without my fix of cheesy pop? I'm already getting bored of my music library after having clocked up nearly 1000 scrobbles in the past week or so - not including what I've listened to on my Walkman on the way down to lectures. I need a boost of new music to inspire me along rather than listening to the same old rubbish over and over again. Although sometimes it is nice to have a good root through the library and rediscover bands you have forgotten about. Only as I am writing this, I have stumbled across the Guillemots again and I'd forgotten all about them! Shocking I know because a couple of years ago I would have considered them to be in my top ten bands of all time.
