My Personality

Whilst catching up with the overnight blogs this morning, I came across this experiment linked to from the BBC Internet blog. It is called the big personality test and has (apparently) been running for quite a while now. It was probably mentioned on the One Show at some point but I must have missed it. Anyway, I normally go for this sort of thing, if not just to waste some time then to satisfy some underlying interest in the subject and I usually end up killing two birds with one stone. It didn't take too long to complete although the way it was structured meant that - as with most online questionnaires - you had to answer some questions that didn't have the appropriate answer. Even the questions themselves suggested that the response was dependant on the previous answer i.e. if yes... implying that you should only answer the question if the answer to the previous question was yes. Either that or I'm missing something because skipping it resulted in being red flagged and asked to complete all questions. Shame really because other than that the page was really well laid out and styled beautifully.

So what were the results then... well, see for yourself, they categorise your personality into what they call the big 5: openness, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness and neuroticism. The results are given to you by way of video, superbly explained by Professor Robert Winston and allows you to compare your scores to that of some famous faces including Jo Whiley and Evan Davies. Here's what I got...

Openness - 3.3:
This medium/low score means that I do not hold any unusual beliefs and that I am less likely to believe in conspiracy theories.
Conscientiousness - 3.4:
A medium score means that I have a good work/life balance and am not a workaholic. I enjoy planning and list making but am not averse to spontaneity.
Extroversion - 3:
A medium score therefore I have a positive life outlook and natural leadership skills.
Agreeableness - 4.2:
A very high score means that I am a people person who finds working in a team very easy. I find it easy to get on with people and people often warm to me. I am sensitive to the emotions of others.
Neuroticism - 1.9:
A very low score here means that I am calm and even tempered, cope well with stressful situations and can seem tranquil despite adverse circumstances.

Overall, I reckon they've got me pretty much spot on, which is very surprising for one of these quizzes although this one is actually based on science rather than a kid who created a Facebook quiz. The only thing I would have disagreed with is the leadership bit but since being at university I seem to have inadvertently been nominated the team leader for both group projects during the course and have ended up as the lead tenant for the house. Perhaps it's true then and I had just been denying it for all this time.

If you have got a few minutes to spare then I suggest you have a look at it and see what it says about you. You may even discover some hidden trait that you never knew you had. https://www.bbc.co.uk/labuk/experiments/personality/
