Stop the press, I went out tonight, hurrah! Okay so it was only to Bar One (the Student's Union Bar) and we spent most of the time on the games machine but it was nice to get out the house of an evening for a change. I shouldn't really have gone in the first place, I have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks but I felt I needed to go out to get it out of my system so I can settle down and start writing. I managed to win £1 on the Pub Quiz game and in fact the machine paid out about £5 during the night so we were quite happy.
Is it just me or is The Gadget Show getting worse and worse every week? Tonight the whole show was leading up to this supposedly amazing jet powered hoverboard, it was rubbish, what practical use is there for that? About the only decent and worthwhile part of the program these days seems to be the top five and Jon Bentley's reviews and this week even the top five wasn't really about gadgets and who can afford a new scooter these days? In fact, most of the items they've been featuring on the show lately aren't actually gadgets, take this week's wall of fame for example - Mini vs Beetle - since when have cars been gadgets? Cars can certainly contain gadgets but these ones wouldn't have done, they are from decades ago although at least he picked the right one, I would have been very annoyed to see the Beetle win over the British institution that is the Mini.
Forgot to do this yesterday, actually a difficult one for different reasons this week, a couple of good tracks released but in the end it had to be La Roux and Quicksand. This was the second song of theirs I heard after seeing the video for In for the Kill on the NME music channel early last year, it was one of those songs that grabbed my attention and after hearing it in full for the first time, I was hooked. A quick scour on YouTube returned another of their songs, this one. As soon as I'd heard this one I knew that La Roux would be a band to look out for in the coming months. I could hardly wait for the album to be released and as I've mentioned before, she was my highlight of Leeds festival. Hey, they've even got their own tag on the blog! So glad that this has finally been released a single though, I was quite shocked when they decided to release I'm Not Your Toy as their last single because I think it's one of the poorer records from the album. Hopefully this will stay up for a while, the official videos have embedding disabled sadly.
