Birthday

Not mine yet but a friend of mine who I lived with in halls during my first year at university. He had come across a restaurant on west street that had a two for one offer on pizzas and had invited us all out for a birthday meal. Not only were the pizzas a really good price in the first place but they were really really tasty. Made fresh to order, the speed of service was much faster than anywhere else I have been and they managed to cater for the eighteen of us with no problems at all. The pizzas were proper Italian ones as well rather than the dominoes/pizza hut style we are used to. The dough was thin and crispy and the toppings were real rather than horrible processed rubbish. It also gave everyone the chance to experience a proper pizza (which it turns out many of them had never had) without the American influence and the garlic and herb dip.

At this point three of the party decided that they were too ill to carry on and went home. The dreaded freshers flu seems to be catching up on everyone now and three of my housemates have come down with it; thankfully I have managed to avoid it so far *touch wood* but I can't see that lasting too much longer. I guess I'll just have to carry on drinking orange juice and topping up my vitamin C levels - not sure if this really works but perhaps there is a placebo effect that has been keeping me safe so far.

After that we had a quick visit to a couple of bars before heading to Plug. As expected, the queues were huge but we managed to time our arrival just as they were opening a second entrance and we managed to get in pretty quickly. Some nice cheesy music played throughout the night so a good time was had by all.

Slightly daunting is the prospect of the end of week one and already I have to two new languages: MatLab and Python and also how to use Pure Data. On top of that I have to hand in the fist part of my dissertation in a couple of weeks and I already feel behind with everything without having really started yet. Some serious work to be done this weekend I think.
