Soooo Tired

Today got off to a pretty rubbish start, after going out last night and forcing myself to not drink anything remotely stimulating - something quite difficult when my beverage of choice is usually Coca Cola. Yes I know I'll rot my teeth, but it tastes pretty damn good and as I don't drink tea or coffee, I need some form of caffeine to keep me going late into the night. Well that bit wasn't so much of a problem, I managed to stay awake fine, despite only having about four hours sleep the night before. On mentioning my terrible nights sleep, it would seem that the whole household was affected by some sort of localised insomnia outbreak that night as well with all of my co-habitants reporting a sleepless night. Anyway, where was I? Ah yes, so after managing to avoid stimulating drinks all night, a quick stop at the local takeaway forced me to buy a chicken burger on the way home. It didn't even taste that brilliant and I wasn't even that hungry!

Well I certainly paid for it in the morning. The earliest lecture of the week is on a Tuesday when it begins at 10:00am. Perhaps not as bad as some poor souls who have the dreaded 9 o'clock start but I have been thankful to have never had one of these and so cannot comment on their unpleasantness. I can however, comment on the unpleasantness of 10 o'clock lectures because for the last four months or possibly even longer, I haven't risen from my bed before 10am except for possibly some rare one off event. The concept of having to do this on a regular basis, fills me with a rather large sense of pessimism and depression which scares me somewhat as 99% of the time I'm a cheery and happy person - sometimes unnaturally and annoyingly happy.

It turned out to be the most difficult lecture in my two years in Sheffield and after the first ten minutes I had resigned to supporting my head on the table with my hands to stop the dreaded nodding dog impression with the classic jolt that tells everyone that you were dozing off. The second half of the hour was spent concentrating more on keeping my eyes open and trying to stifle the yawns that I can't now remember too much of the content of the lecture and thus re-affirming the thought that I'd have been better off staying in bed.

When I finally got home shortly afterwards, I decided a nap was in order. I've no idea how I would ever survive the "real world" having to wake up at 9am and stay away until 5pm - at the moment that seems like more of a nightmare than reality. An hour later I awoke feeling slightly more refreshed and rested hardly even noticing five minutes pass (which I think is a good sign) although as always I had the horrible taste of sleep in my mouth that is very difficult to get rid of.

I now have no more lectures until Thursday afternoon and have wasted most of today watching catch-up TV, somewhat successfully as I now only have 2 episodes of the Hairy Bikers to get up to date with. I even managed to watch the next episode of Heroes on the big TV thanks to the new DVD player, although it took me about half an hour to work out what encoding to use after the first few attempt having no sound. I'm still not sure about this new series, the cliffhangers aren't as cliffhangery as the last series and so far hasn't left me with that horrible feeling of wanting more more more and wishing that I could watch the next episode straight away, knowing that I'd have to wait a whole week before I could get my next fix.

A quick mention to a superb and hilarious episode of The Big Food Fight this evening although I was hugely disappointed with Sophie Dahl's appalling attempt at naming ten types of apple. Another special mention to Charlie Brooker's Gameswipe special which will hopefully be commissioned for a full series. I don't claim to know very much about gaming and I am utterly useless at it - which may sound surprising coming from a self confessed computer geek but I just don't have the hand-eye coordination needed to work those stupid console controllers. I can quite happily use a mouse and keyboard and would classify myself as okay at PC based games, but anything on a console - even the supposedly easy to use Wiimote leaves me in a pickle of button pressing and finger flailing. But it was a good programme and very funny and I recommend you check it out if you haven't done so already.

I am going to start using these new fangled jump breaks in my blogs from now on, I have noticed that even when I set out to write a short and concise recollection of my day, I end up typing out a mini-essay. I just wish real essays were this easy to write :(
